module 16

1. My expectations were met for this course. I was expecting to see new things and learning items that I wasn’t a huge fan of. Yet it was great to be able to learn about things I found interesting myself.
2. I still think that art is an outlet, in a way that artists need and be able to place there points across.
3. Claude Monet is still my favorite artists, and I think that may just be because I have learnt about him for so long and grew up around his paintings.
4. My answers were the same as when I had first posted. Even though I have learnt so much more that allowed me to broaden my thoughts.

Module 15

1.     I honestly picked these pieces because, I found them interesting how they were all angled in the same position. I found them interesting in their own ways. Yet only one of them was on display when I went to the Albright Knox.
2.     I selected this media because it was one that I have used in previous classes and the first one I found while unpacking my new apartment. But it is one of my favorites to use.
3.     I had a very hard time blending the right way and creating a nose that looked proportionate. I had to redo the nose multiple times until I felt like it looked somewhere like my own.
4.     I think this piece represents me in the sense that, it looks how I feel myself to look. My small characteristics that I attempted to show within the work.
5.     I applied the use of shading and light to my work, or at least I attempted to.
6.     I enjoyed the project, It was much harder than I thought it would be, especially with the sense of how I think I look compared to how the work turned out.
7.      I think my overall artwork looks alright but not the best that it could be, overall.

Oskar Kokoschka, Self Portrait, ca. 1914, lithograph

Edgar Degas, Degas à la redingote noire (Self-Portrait), ca. 1854-1855, oil on canvas

Frida Kahlo, Self-Portrait with Monkey, 1938, oil on Masonite

Module 13/14

1.    The first video that I watched was An Acquiring Mind; Philippe de Montebello and The Metropolitan,  I think some really good points were bought out, such as how some pieces need specific lighting to be seen the way they were supposed to yet some pieces should remain as shards instead of recreating, or fixing them, all in all these pieces are to be respected in whatever form they are in. The second video that I watched was Tate Modern. In this there were quite a number on concepts that stood out such as, how you don’t need to understand the history and thoughts going in to the works in order to understand the exhibits, each person will have their own opinions, yet they will be within the lines that the artists provided. Another one that stood out to me was that while most of the world believes if two artists are opposites they will not blend in a good way, while sometimes that is what complements them, and allows them to blossom further.  The last video I proceeded to watch was, The Lowdown on Lowbrow. This one was very interesting to watch and unlike the previous two, there were quite a few pop culture’s references, while most of the artists talked about seemed to like the idea of consumerism, which helped this type of art take off. At this point it was mentioned how many of these artworks were complied with a large amount of opinions, between pop art, surrealism and works that created quite a commotion.

2.    While I didn’t think the last video helped me in the creation, both of the other’s played a small role, from putting the exhibit together in a sense that it made it flow and allowing me to understand the way art curators used all of the information. This let me follow the steps creating the project.

3.    The films were all interesting in their own ways while some information wasn’t used, I did use some of it to outline my project.

Module 11

1.       I picked Matisse and Picasso, as well as Expressionism, both of which are videos that caught my eye, just because they were interesting to me.
2.       Matisse and Picasso were extremely different people, but alike in the sense of creating their famous works. Both pushed the boundaries of the art world in their time and created a new era. Expressionism was a way of expressing the artists inner thoughts, through an alteration, vivid and rich ways of breaking the boundaries.
3.       I think the videos relate to the texts, while they had a lot of the same information, they also gave a different view of this information by reinterpreting the information to an easier understanding.
4.       I enjoyed the films a lot, I learn new things in how certain aspects of the impact all these skills adapted modern art.

Module 10

1.    I decided to watch Buddhism and African Art. I chose these because I have never really investigated Buddhism, whereas on the other side I grew up in Africa and went to school with many people from different countries within the continent.

2.    Some interesting concepts that I took from these videos were that, in Buddhism art gives off a sense of serenity, I also found out that the largest Buddhist temple is Borobudur, in another country that I have lived in. In African art, traditions played a large role into their works, from symbolism, sculptures and masks. Art was used in a day to day basis, often bringing good will on their hunts, they used many materials that were easily found, yet perishable leaving a limited amount of works of an older age.

3.    These videos both relate to the texts, while I still feel the same way I usually do, the videos can give viewers a more in depth and better understanding of the cultures.

4.    Both videos were very informative, for me I liked watching the African art one better just because it brought me back to my childhood and the art and culture, I grew up around.

Module 12

1.     Uncertainty: Modernity and Art and Abstract Expressionism and Pop were the two videos that I chose to look at not only because the titles were interesting but because they are more of the works that I’m not as familiar with. I know of some works in each style but haven’t studied them closely.

2.     In Uncertainty: Modernity and Art, I really liked how the mentioned Hitler before his political career and how he went in to be an artist, yet he wasn’t good at it at all. I never realized how that was a part of his life. And in Abstract Expressionism and Pop– I like how the idea of how expressionism wasn’t focused on realism yet more on the color concept instead as well as how they were able to predict what would be achieved in the end.

3.    Both the textbooks and the videos talk about the same items being mentioned. While the texts give specific examples, the videos are able to give more depth the to story.

4.    I like watching the videos they always show more depth than what one can read.

Module 9; Exploring Line

1.     I didn’t mind using my hand as a subject matter, it was difficult to just not move my hand without realizing it though.

2.     I used a pencil, only because I was unsure of where I placed my charcoal in the process of packing my house up.

3.     I hated using my non-dominant hand. I had absolutely no control.

4.     My dominant hand is easier to spot, because there are small amounts of contrast and the proper movement in a hand, while my non-dominant had no strength in the image at all.

5.     I think it would depend on what needed to be done in the work.

Module 9; video review

1.     I watched The Power of Art; Caravaggio and the Leonardo da Vinci: the mind of the renaissance. I picked both videos because I was hoping to learn something new which was unlike what I had learnt in my art history courses. Both artists have been spoken about in my house hold because they are both my mother’s favorites, so it was inevitable that I would decide to pick them.

2.     The power of art; Caravaggio showed us a difference between these two artists, being someone who never used paint and often stuck to drawing was a big difference in how he became who he was. Learning by viewing artworks like so many before him, he was able to learn to understand that emphasizing light and dark was a major focus. He often chose to show the different side of life, such as the imperfections of fruit.

With the second video were learnt more about Da Vinci, who he was and how he became who he was. He often studied and kept notes and records of it in order to save his ideas that would often reflect in his works.

      3.     These videos stated once again what had been stated within the text.

4.     These videos were each interesting in their own ways. They described much about the ways these artists grew up. I like how they pointed out the more important aspects in a subtle way and put the major points about these artists across to the viewers.

      1.    I selected my video about The Greek Awakening, because I am currently taking a Greek art and architecture class for my major and I am finding it a very interesting history and the cultures as well as how the arts changed and developed in the way that they did.

2.    I think mentioning how now we can look at old paintings and images that people within out lineages and people of the past have created and this allowed us to interpret our own opinions upon the works. I think that it would be interesting to understand why they painted and created what they did but that is very difficult to figure out now. With watching the Greek video, I really liked how I could relate to it because it is my major. I like that art historians can figure out meanings with little items and figure out how they are able to find things out like where they are from and how it was created. I like how the fuller figurines were woman and sometimes it they have stripes it means that they are mothers.

3.    Within art and the texts, we can see how they both mention the symbols and different body languages within the arts.

4.    Watching these videos, it was possible to learn new things and help us make connections and figure out what each style means and how it blended over time to create the things that we see now. With the way works were created then and now everything is still an amazing work of art.

Video Review

I didn’t realize that marble was a product of limestone that has been manipulated by the earth over many many years. I also found out that glass, even though I knew it was made my heated sand, I always thought there was other products that had to be added into the overall mixture. I also tend to forget that ceramics are everywhere in different styles and molds. The fact that sculptures were often founded by drawing and then made of clay before creating a larger scale eventually ending with the overall product. I thought that they just drew it out, found the measurements and created the over all sculpture so, finding out that there are more steps involved was interesting.
The readings and the videos relate to one another well, I think that after watching the videos the understanding of the process and how much work goes into it was clearer.
I think that the films were enlightening. I started out with the shorter video, not just because it was a smaller time frame but because I remembered going to Corning glass as a child and found it interesting. The second film was longer and as much as  I love art I always worry about nodding off watching the films, there were a few times I had to rewind to fully comprehend what was being said but it was actually quite intriguing. Being able to see how much work and time and effort that goes into the processes really opened my mind to how hard and time consuming it really is.

Peer Reviews

Within both blogs, I thought they both matched the descriptions well. They both obviously spent their time finding what they wanted to use for each image and took their tie to capture the right angles.

There were a few images where you could see the images doubling within two different elements, yet they matched well with what they were placed with.

I don’t believe there were any images that were the same as my own.

One of my peers posted an image of a Pumpkin Sculpture, which peaked my interest, because it was a very simple yet delicate looking image, and I personally love the fall and the items associated with it.
I think it was a good thing to have us review each other’s works, just because it allows us to learn and see how our ideas of art may differ from the art works of others.

I liked the comments that I saw. I always feel as if I’m not going in the right direction and a few of the comments I received validated that I am.

Logo

I have many thoughts on creating this logo. It took me a while to configure what I wanted to use, which is my initials and the colors of flags as well as a plane in a clockwise motion of her wary of lived and how I grew up traveling the world.

The process that I used was that I took my initials because I use them with everything in my social media to my emails to my school work, I had a sketch out multiple different ways to have them create the initials without really looking as if they were my initials. Within the space as I decided that it would be a good idea to create the flags of the countries that I grew up and lived in in the clock word way around the rectangle showing in order of which country I grew up in order. I also decided to put a plane in the middle of each flag do you show the direction that my life path has taken so far, it shows the places that made me who I am as a person today. I started mixing media, with colors pens and pastels to create the overall look.

To me I think the most important discovery while creating my logo was about the design aspects, how to create it, how to incorporate everything that you wanted to incorporate as well as what materials would look best as a for a final product.

Albright Knox

I think the artist that made more of an impact on me was both James Ensor, and Jasper Johns. Both of these works are bright and colorful and the way that they are put together makes you wonder and think, They also make your brain work which is why I think it made most impact on me because I was trying to figure out why they did what they did and how these pieces of work. They are both images of things that I like, growing up I loved fireworks and the excitement that was involved with them. As well as the aspect of numbers and colors working together, for me and working with children it involves all the aspects that they need to be taught from the beginning.

I feel most connection to both Jackson Pollock and Helen Frankenthaler, because of the way that they created these works of art and the way I feel about how I like to create works of art. You can see the emotion and the confusion and the passion that both of these artists put into their work, The blending of the colors the spotting of the paint, the mixture of the random colors that are intriguing to look at and try to find the story behind them.

There are two works of art that I honestly want to know a little more about which is both by Joan Mitchell and  Paul Cézanne . Both of these works are not showing full figures which is what I would like to know what like what were the artist actually seeing in order to create what they created. Why did they paint these works in the style that they did and did their emotions play a role in the colors that they used.

1. Creating the value scale and the color wheel was not something new to me but it is always different each time you try to create it, you picture one thing in your head and it rarely happens as easy as you think.

2. I personally like creating the value scale more than the color wheel, just because I like to use charcoal as my medium and I like how careful you have to be in creating a slight difference throughout the color.

3. The most important discovery in the creation of these scales is that of being able to see how all of these colors and scales blend and how it works together in order to create the perfect image in the long run.

4. I never knew about the changes in the color wheel, I always noticed that the middle would turn brown instead of black, I think its important to learn this in order to create the colors and blend them in the proper ways instead of being off every time even if it is just a small amount.

My images of both of my scales are failing to upload today. I plan on uploading them on another laptop in the morning and editing my post to show them.

Creating this Slideshow on Photobucket was not the easiest thing to create. Taking the images and finding some that I had previously taken was the fun part. Figuring out what image would cover each element and principle was slightly harder. The hardest part for me was using Photobucket. Personally I had to upload each image about fives times, and every time I went in to edit and add the names of each thing the website would freeze up. Yet all in all it was definitely a new learning curve.

Module 3

  1. Color uses different effects on the emotional scale each color is able to be used in the way to portray the feelings are created sense of different feelings and emotion with in the room. Each color has a different meaning and vibe to them for example read would either be past your anger while yellow can be positive intention hope pink is often seen as vulnerable and safety while blue can represent cost and calming.
  2. The way that color each creates different feelings and helps you feel different ways, often calm and relaxed, without every realizing it.
  3. The overwhelming ideas and colors create a large impact on the way it reflects and is often seen. For example how Titian use the colors reflect within his own paintings and creates different volumes in the ways the color could impact viewers. It’s also interesting how the difference in lighting constantly changes and this changes the view and the emotions that the paintings give off.
  4. Using light and shade within Giotto’s paintings creates a powerful feeling and emotion that becomes evident when looking through Giotto's responses on the stories he’s painting the way he uses the colors and also tells a story at the same time create a new feeling that doesn’t just come with a color.

Creating my new Gmail account was easy enough, finding a valid username drives me insane because so many of them are taken! Setting up my blog was not as easy, I had to use another laptop that allowed my to create it, and of course I used my go to instead of art related which was a reading error on my part!
I think I will learn new terms and ways about art throughout this course.
I like taking online classes because they work much easier for my with my school scheduling and beginning the process of preparing to move at the end of the semester.
From Growth Mindset I think I can see myself in a few ways of being determined and focusing and putting my best foot forward and prioritizing when it comes to both work ad academics.
